What is the color we all wish to see this time of year? Tired of all the drab browns of winter, we eagerly await the days when we look out our windows and behold – green! It is exciting to see the earth put forth shoots that herald spring. Lawns that lay dormant through the winter begin to brighten up and become lush and green once again. (We are not going to ruin the mood with thoughts of having to…..
Summer is winding rapidly to a close. Nights are becoming cooler, and it is getting dark much earlier. However, summer still has one last hurrah – Labor Day. I was having trouble deciding on which recipe(s) to delete out of the ones I selected but decided to cut the story short and use them all. Have a safe and enjoyable end-of-summer holiday! Toasted Pecan-Broccoli-and-Cauliflower Salad 2/3 cup chopped pecans 1-1/2 cups light mayonnaise OR salad dressing 1/2 cup sugar…..
One of the blessings of summer is fresh berries; blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries are some of my favorites (in that order). I have read quite a bit lately about the health benefits of these berries, and there is not one of them that I don’t enjoy eating by the handful. Of the three, blackberries are probably my favorite because I have so many memories of picking them. All the effort was rewarded with one bite of my mother’s blackberry pie. …..
Last week was made brighter by an overnight visit from my granddaughter Vivian, who is six years old going on 30. My son Jonathan brought her to my house on Wednesday evening; she was very excited about spending time with Grammie. When bedtime became a reality, her fear overcame her…..

Bob and I meant every word we vowed when we uttered the words, “Till death do us part.” Marriage was a lifetime commitment, not something to discard when the going got tough. We made a choice to stay together through the difficulties of life and the struggles in…..
To say I was not ready for motherhood when it happened is an understatement. My husband Bob and I wanted children, but my desire was to finish my college degree before we started our family. However, the Lord had another plan for me. In March of 1978, I found out that what I thought was a bad case of the flu was actually a pregnancy. I remember going shopping with a friend and purchasing a new dress; it was NOT…..
As a child, one of my favorite holidays was Resurrection Sunday, also known as Easter. My siblings and I received baskets of goodies which often included ruffly socks or tights to wear with our dresses. Sometimes Mom made our Easter dresses, and sometimes they were purchased. Weather permitting, my dad (a.k.a. the Easter Bunny) would hide our colorfully dyed eggs before we got ready for church. Even though my siblings and I enjoyed the eggs and baskets full of…..
